Girls’ education to be free up to graduation, degree level: PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that girls' education up to graduation and degree will be free. He also announced that LPG cards will be given to ease the burden of cooking for women. He said these things at a BNP rally at Jashore Central Eidgah Maidan at 5:30pm on Monday (April 27).
He said, 'No one will be allowed to do such things that will disturb the peace of the people. No ticket sales, the BNP government will work for the people.'
At the rally, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, 'The people have supported the implementation of the July Charter through a yes-no vote. BNP will implement it. This government will complete the unfinished work of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia in the interest of the people of the country. The people of the country are the politics of BNP. No development is possible by leaving half of the country's population behind women.'
Noting that the people of the country have trust in the BNP, he said, 'A group wants to obstruct the government's plans, who sold tickets to paradise before the elections. The people have supported BNP to serve the country.’
The Prime Minister said, ‘The people of the country want to live in peace and well. The people want to see the implementation of BNP’s election promises. Those who misled the people during independence are still misleading the people. The misled will spread confusion, and BNP will work for the people.’
Regarding women’s education, Tarique Rahman said, ‘When Begum Khaleda Zia was in charge of running the country from 1991 to 1996, she did it for the first time at the school level, and for the second time at the intermediate level. We want to take forward that part of Khaleda Zia’s program. For this reason, we have decided that, God willing, we will provide free education for women up to the degree level, that is, higher education. We will not only make free education for women up to the degree level, but at the same time, we will provide scholarships for our girls who can achieve good results. So that they can get higher education.’
The Prime Minister said, ‘Mothers and sisters have a lot of trouble for one reason, they have trouble with cooking, be it mothers and sisters in the village or mothers and sisters in the city. Just as we are delivering family cards to mothers across the country, we want to provide another service. That will be an LPG card. Through this, we will deliver LPG gas to mothers and sisters. So that mothers and sisters do not have to struggle for cooking.’
Regarding the canal digging program at the gathering, the Prime Minister said, ‘I had promised the people that if BNP comes to power and is able to form a government with the support of the people of the country, we will start the canal digging program left by Shaheed Zia in the country. InshaAllah, in the next 5 years, we will try to dig about 20 thousand kilometers of canals like this Ulashi Canal across the country. So that the people of the village, people living in the village, farmer brothers and sisters, local residents and members of the young society can benefit from various types of income generation from there. We want to dig canals for that.’
Expressing the steps taken for the welfare of farmers and workers, the Prime Minister said, ‘We had said that if BNP forms the government, we will give agricultural cards to the farmers. We will make arrangements to waive the agricultural loans of the farmers up to Tk 10,000. By the grace of God, we have started that work and within the first 100 days of the formation of the government, we have waived the agricultural loans of the farmers who had agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000. Besides, we will make arrangements to reopen the various sugar mills and factories, which have closed down and many people have become unemployed, InshaAllah. In the next two to four months, it will be possible to reopen many of the closed factories in Bangladesh. As a result, there will be employment opportunities for the unemployed. Besides, in many countries, the export of manpower is limited and closed. We are in talks with those countries. We will soon be able to accelerate the export of manpower to many countries.’
Presided over by District BNP President Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu and moderated by District BNP General Secretary Dolowar Hossain Khokon, the public meeting was also addressed by BNP Vice Chairman Professor Nargis Begum, Joint Secretary General and Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, Central BNP Leader Habibul Islam Habib and Co-Organizing Secretary (Khulna Division) Jayanta Kumar Kundu.
