Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan has been withdrawn from his position. The information was conveyed on Monday (September 1) night through an order signed by Additional DIG Sharif Uddin, in charge of Personnel Management-1 at Police Headquarters.

A source at Police Headquarters said that he faced allegations of blocking public roads during his regular commutes from Dhaka to his office in Gazipur.

The issue gained public attention after a report in a national daily highlighted the road closures during Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan’s movements to and from his workplace. The matter sparked widespread criticism, and he was issued a show-cause notice, according to Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Sources from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police said that on Sunday (31 August), the Home Ministry’s core committee reviewed a report by intelligence agencies regarding the situation in Gazipur Metropolitan Police. During the meeting, it was decided to withdraw the GMP Commissioner.

Notably, Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan, an officer of the 15th police batch, was the elected president of the Bangladesh Police Service Association. During the previous Awami League government, he was sent on compulsory retirement. However, after the change in government, he applied for reinstatement, was restored, promoted to DIG, and appointed as the Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
