A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support the families of two Bangladeshi PhD students, Zamil Ahmed Limon and Nahida Sultana Bristy, who were killed in the United States.

The campaign has raised more than $140,000 within just two days.

The fundraising initiative was started by Kai Raines, a graduate advisor connected to one of the students, Limon.

According to the campaign organisers, both families were financially dependent on the students, making the support crucial during their current difficult circumstances.

GoFundMe, a global crowdfunding platform, is widely used to raise emergency funds for individuals and families in crisis situations.

Meanwhile, USF has announced an on-campus vigil for the two doctoral students, scheduled for tomorrow at 4:00pm.

Limon and Bristy, both 27, had been missing since April 16. Eight days later, authorities recovered Limon’s body near a bridge following digital tracking and vehicle data analysis. Police said his hands and feet were bound, and multiple stab wounds were found on his body.

On Sunday, another body was recovered from a nearby water body, believed to be Bristy, though formal identification is still pending.

Authorities have arrested 26-year-old Hisham Abu Garbiyeh, Limon’s roommate, as the prime suspect in the case. He has been taken into custody and remanded to jail. A Florida court earlier ordered him to be held without bail pending further proceedings.
