Golam Maula Rony spreading false information on talk shows:Shafiqul
Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser of the interim government, has accused former MP and politician Golam Maula Rony of disseminating false and misleading information on television talk shows and social media platforms, including YouTube.
In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Alam criticized Rony’s recent remarks in various talk shows, labeling him as “one of the primary sources of misinformation and distortion in TV and online media.”
Referring to a recent talk show on Somoy TV, the press secretary noted that Rony falsely claimed that Nur Hossain, the iconic martyr of the anti-autocracy movement, was killed by the public.
“We all know that on November 10, 1987, Nur Hossain was shot and killed by General Ershad’s security forces,” Alam wrote. “Is Rony now trying to erase Ershad’s crimes from history?”
He also expressed disappointment at the host of the Somoy TV show, alleging that the presenter did not challenge Rony’s false claims.
“It is unfortunate that the host of the program did not protest this blatant falsehood,” Alam stated. “When you provide a platform to voices spreading lies and confusion, you too become complicit in that act.”
The press secretary’s comments have sparked discussions on the responsibilities of media platforms in ensuring factual accuracy during public broadcasts.
