Gold price cut by Tk 2,202 per bhori

The price of gold has been cut by Tk 2,202 per bhori in markets across the country, just three days after the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) raised rates.

Under the latest decision, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 235,146 per bhori, down from Tk 237,348 previously.

BAJUS’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring decided on the reduction at a meeting at 9am on Sunday. The new rates took effect from 10am, with the association citing a fall in the price of pure gold, or bullion, in the local market.

The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 224,594 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 192,855. Gold sold under the traditional method will be priced at Tk 157,519 per bhori.

BAJUS also set the price of silver at Tk 5,132 per bhori for 22-carat, Tk 4,957 for 21-carat, Tk 4,257 for 18-carat and Tk 3,207 for traditional silver.

The association said labour charges would apply depending on jewellery design. VAT is included in the selling price, meaning jewellers cannot collect it separately from customers.

The latest rates will remain in effect at jewellery shops across the country until further notice.
