Gold price drops after two consecutive hikes

After two consecutive price increases, the Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) has again reduced gold prices in the local market. According to the new decision, the price of gold has been reduced by Tk 3,324 per bhori.

In a notification issued on Thursday morning, March 12, BAJUS announced that the price of 22-carat gold per bhori (11.664 grams) has been set at Tk 267,106. The new rates came into effect from 10:00 am on the same day.

BAJUS stated that the new price has been determined considering the overall situation as the price of raw gold or pure gold has decreased in the local market.

According to the new price list, 21-carat gold is now Tk 254,975 per bhori, 18-carat gold is Tk 218,583 per bhori, and traditional method gold is priced at Tk 178,401 per bhori.

On the other hand, although gold prices have decreased, BAJUS has increased silver prices. According to the new decision, the price of 22-carat silver has been increased by Tk 175 to Tk 6,707 per bhori. Additionally, 21-carat silver is now priced at Tk 6,415 per bhori, 18-carat silver at Tk 5,482 per bhori, and traditional method silver at Tk 4,082 per bhori.

Earlier on Wednesday, BAJUS had decided to increase gold prices, raising 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 to Tk 270,430 per bhori.

According to BAJUS data, gold prices have been adjusted 41 times in the local market so far this year. Prices increased 26 times and decreased 15 times. In 2025, gold prices were adjusted a total of 93 times, with 64 increases and 29 decreases.

Meanwhile, silver prices have been adjusted 25 times so far this year, with 16 increases and nine decreases. In 2025, silver prices were adjusted a total of 13 times – 10 increases and three decreases.
