Gold price jumps again, 22-carat hits Tk 236,779 per bhori
Gold prices have risen again in the markets across the country, with the price of 22-carat gold climbing to Tk 236,779 per bhori, including VAT, following the latest adjustment by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).
The new prices came into effect on Saturday (August 16), according to a BAJUS notification issued on August 15, after prices of pure gold, known locally as tezabi gold, increased in the domestic market.
Under the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold has increased by Tk 2,158 per bhori to Tk 236,779. The price of 21-carat gold now stands at Tk 226,165 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is selling for Tk 194,206. Gold made under the traditional method is priced at Tk 158,630 per bhori.
BAJUS said the revised rates will remain in effect at jewellery shops across the country until further notice. VAT is included in the listed selling prices, while making charges will be added separately depending on the design and workmanship of the jewellery.
The latest increase reverses the previous cut announced on Aug. 14, when BAJUS reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,158 to Tk 234,621 per bhori. Prices of 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional gold were also reduced at the time.
Gold prices have remained highly volatile this year. BAJUS has adjusted domestic gold prices 104 times so far in 2026, with prices raised on 52 occasions and lowered on 51, while one adjustment involved VAT.
The pace of price revisions has also accelerated compared with last year. In 2025, BAJUS changed gold prices 93 times, raising them 64 times and cutting them 29 times.
