Gold prices in Bangladesh have soared to a new record, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) raising the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374 per bhori just one day after its previous adjustment.

Under the revised pricing, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold now costs Tk 228,556, including VAT.

The new rates took effect from 10:00am on Friday (July 3), BAJUS said in a statement.

The association attributed the latest hike to a sharp increase in the price of pure (acid-test) gold in the local market, prompting a fresh revision after reviewing overall market conditions.

According to the updated price list, 21-carat gold has been priced at Tk 218,292 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will sell for Tk 187,440. Gold produced under the traditional method has been fixed at Tk 153,148 per bhori, with all prices inclusive of VAT.

The latest increase follows another upward adjustment announced on July 2, when BAJUS raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 to Tk 224,182 per bhori. Prices of other categories were also revised upward at that time.

BAJUS data shows that gold prices have been revised 86 times so far this year. Of those, prices were increased 43 times, reduced 42 times, while one revision involved only VAT adjustments, underscoring the continued volatility in the domestic bullion market.
