Gold price rises again, up by Tk 1,633 per bhori

Gold prices have increased again in the domestic market. According to the new rates, the Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) has raised the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 1,633 per bhori to Tk 2,21,441.

The new prices came into effect from 10:30am on Tuesday (July 21).

BAJUS said in a press release that the new gold prices were fixed following a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market.

According to the new price list, the price of 21-carat gold per bhori has been fixed at Tk 2,11,468. Similarly, the price of 18-carat gold has been set at Tk 1,81,608, and the price of traditional method gold per bhori at Tk 1,48,366.

However, no change was made to silver prices. As a result, the current price of 22-carat silver per bhori is Tk 4,607, 21-carat at Tk 4,374, 18-carat at Tk 3,790 and traditional method silver at Tk 2,857.

Meanwhile, following the 2026-27 fiscal year budget, changes have been made to the VAT system on gold jewellery. From now on, VAT will be included in the declared price of jewellery; as a result, VAT will not be collected separately from buyers. In the new budget, VAT on gold jewellery per bhori has been fixed at Tk 2,500. Previously, VAT was charged at a rate of 5 percent on the total value of jewellery.
