Gold price rises Tk 2,214, per bhori

Gold prices have risen again in domestic market, with the price of 22-carat gold climbing above Tk 230,000 per bhori following a fresh adjustment by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

Under the new rate, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 230,781, up Tk 2,214 from the previous price. The new rate took effect nationwide from 10am Wednesday.

BAJUS said the latest adjustment was made after the price of locally sourced Tejabi gold increased. The decision was taken at a meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring earlier Wednesday (September 30).

The price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 19,785 per gram, up Tk 190 from Tk 19,595 on Tuesday. The price of 21-carat gold is now Tk 18,895 per gram, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 16,225. Gold sold under the traditional method has been priced at Tk 13,255 per gram.

Silver prices have also increased. The new rate for 22-carat silver is Tk 370 per gram, up Tk 15 from Tk 355. Rates for 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional silver have been set at Tk 355, Tk 305 and Tk 230 per gram, respectively.

The latest increase follows several price adjustments by BAJUS in the final week of September amid movements in global and domestic markets.

BAJUS said the rates will remain in effect at jewellery shops nationwide until further notice. The announced selling prices include government-imposed VAT, meaning jewellers cannot charge VAT separately, although making charges will be added according to the design of the jewellery.
