Gold prices drop again in local markets

Gold prices have been cut again in markets across the country, with the price of 22-carat gold—the highest standard traded in the local market—reduced by Tk 1,108 per bhori.

Under the new rates, a bhori of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 234,038, including VAT, from 10am Wednesday (September 9), according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

BAJUS said it adjusted the prices after a decline in the price of Tejabi gold in the local market. The decision was taken at a meeting of its Standing Committee on Price Determination and Price Monitoring.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold has been cut by Tk 1,050 to Tk 223,540 per bhori, while 18-carat gold has dropped by Tk 933 to Tk 191,931.

The price of traditional-method gold has also been reduced by Tk 700 to Tk 156,822 per bhori.

BAJUS said customers will have to pay 5 per cent VAT and a minimum 6 per cent making charge on top of the listed gold prices. The making charge may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.
