Gold prices fall again

Gold prices have fallen again in domestic market, with the price of 22-carat gold jewellery cut by Tk 2,158 per bhori, or 11.664 grams, bringing the VAT-inclusive price to Tk 230,772.

The new rates took effect at 10am on Monday (September 28), following a decline in the price of locally sourced Tejabi gold, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

The BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring approved the latest adjustment at a meeting on Monday. The decision was announced in a notice signed by committee chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen.

The latest cut comes just two days after BAJUS reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 1,691. The two successive reductions have brought the total decline to Tk 3,849 per bhori.

Under the new rates, 21-carat gold now costs Tk 220,391 per bhori, down Tk 2,100, while 18-carat gold has been reduced by Tk 1,808 to Tk 189,248. Gold jewellery made under the traditional system has also fallen by Tk 1,808 to Tk 154,256.

Silver prices have also been lowered. The VAT-inclusive price of 22-carat silver is now Tk 4,491 per bhori, while 21-carat and 18-carat silver are priced at Tk 4,316 and Tk 3,732, respectively. Traditional silver jewellery now costs Tk 2,799 per bhori.
