Gold prices fall by Tk3,266 per bhori in Bangladesh
Gold prices in Bangladesh have fallen by Tk 3,266 per bhori. Under the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 228,031 per bhori, including value-added tax (VAT).
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced the new prices in a statement on Tuesday morning (13 October). The revised rates took effect at 10am.
BAJUS said the price of pure gold in the local market had declined, prompting the association to revise prices in line with the overall market situation.
Under the new rates, 21-carat gold will cost Tk 217,767 per bhori, while 18-carat gold has been priced at Tk 187,032. Gold sold under the traditional method will cost Tk 152,798 per bhori. One bhori is equivalent to 11.664 grams.
The statement said making charges would vary according to the design of the jewellery. As VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, jewellers cannot charge it separately from customers.
For jewellery exchanges, a 12 per cent deduction will apply, while an 18 per cent deduction will apply when selling jewellery back to jewellers. These deductions will be calculated excluding making charges and the value of stones. However, VAT cannot be deducted separately in either case.
The revised prices will remain in effect at all jewellery shops until BAJUS announces a further decision.
BAJUS last adjusted gold prices on 9 October, raising the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 to Tk 231,297 per bhori, including VAT. At the time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 220,916 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 189,715, and traditional-method gold at Tk 154,956. Those rates also took effect at 10am.
According to BAJUS data, gold prices in Bangladesh have been adjusted 123 times so far this year. Prices have been raised on 60 occasions and lowered on 62, while one adjustment involved VAT. In 2025, prices were revised 93 times, with 64 increases and 29 decreases.
