Gold prices fall for third straight time

Gold prices in domestic market have been cut for the third consecutive time, with the top 22-carat rate falling by Tk 2,216 per bhori, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) said.

The new prices took effect at 10am Tuesday (September 29) following a meeting of BAJUS’s Standing Committee on Price Determination and Price Monitoring.

Under the revised rates, 22-carat gold now costs Tk 228,556 per bhori, including VAT. The rate was Tk 230,772 on Monday, meaning the price has fallen by Tk 2,216 per bhori.

The new price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 218,292 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will sell for Tk 187,440. Gold under the traditional system will cost Tk 153,148 per bhori.

The latest reduction follows two earlier cuts in the domestic market, bringing gold prices down for three consecutive rounds.

Silver prices have also been reduced. The new rate for 22-carat silver is Tk 4,316 per bhori, while 21-carat and 18-carat silver will cost Tk 4,141 and Tk 3,558, respectively. Silver under the traditional system has been set at Tk 2,683 per bhori.

One bhori of gold or silver is equivalent to 11.664 grams.
