Gold prices rise again: 22-carat gold Tk2,34,621 per bhari

Gold prices have risen again in the domestic market, with the price of 22-carat hallmarked gold increasing by Tk1,691 per bhori (11.664 grams) to Tk234,621.

The new rates took effect at 10am Saturday (September 19).

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) said the new prices were set after considering the overall market situation and changes in the prices of raw gold (tejabi gold) and silver, reports Local media

The new rates for gold and silver jewellery were determined at a meeting of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Saturday morning. The rates were announced in a notification signed by committee chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shahin.

Under the new rates, 22-carat hallmarked gold costs Tk20,115 per gram, including VAT. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk19,210 per gram, while 18-carat gold costs Tk16,495 per gram.

Bajus has also set new prices for silver jewellery. The price of 22-carat silver is Tk440 per gram, including VAT, while 21-carat silver costs Tk425 and 18-carat silver Tk365 per gram.

Traditional-method silver has been priced at Tk275 per gram.

Making charges will be added to the prices depending on the design and workmanship of the jewellery, Bajus said.

According to the Bajus notification, VAT is already included in the selling prices of gold and silver jewellery and cannot be charged separately from customers.

For jewellery exchanges, 12% must be deducted after excluding making charges and the cost of stones, while 18% must be deducted when purchasing old gold.

VAT cannot be deducted separately during exchanges or purchases, the notification said.

The new prices will remain effective at jewellery shops across the country until further notice.
