Gold prices rise again, just five days after latest hike
Gold prices have risen again in domestic markets, with the price of 22-carat gold increasing by Tk 3,849 per bhori just five days after the previous hike.
The new rate came into effect at 10am on Thursday (August 20), according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).
The latest adjustment followed a rise in the price of pure gold in the local market, the association said.
Under the new rates, a bhori of 22-carat gold jewellery now costs Tk 240,628, including VAT. The price of 21-carat gold has risen by Tk 3,616 to Tk 229,781 per bhori, while 18-carat gold has increased by Tk 3,149 to Tk 197,355.
The price of traditional-method gold has also gone up by Tk 2,566 to Tk 161,196 per bhori.
BAJUS last raised gold prices on August 15, when the price of 22-carat gold increased by Tk 2,158 to Tk 236,779 per bhori. The latest move therefore marks the second price hike in just five days.
Silver jewellery prices have also increased. The price of 22-carat silver has risen by Tk 233 to Tk 5,307 per bhori, while 21-carat silver has increased by the same amount to Tk 5,074. The price of 18-carat silver has gone up by Tk 175 to Tk 4,374, and traditional-method silver has increased by Tk165 to Tk 3,324 per bhori.
BAJUS calculates jewellery prices based on one bhori, equivalent to 11.664 grams.
However, the final price paid by customers will be higher than the listed rates, as labour charges and other applicable costs are added when purchasing jewellery.
