Gold prices in Bangladesh rose again on Friday, just a day after a minor decline, reflecting continued volatility in the market.

The Bangladesh Jewellers’ Samity (BAJUS) announced an increase of up to Tk 7,640 per bhori, bringing the price of high-quality 22-carat gold to Tk 262,090 per bhori, up from Tk 2,54,000 the previous day.

The new rates, effective Saturday from 10:00am, also set 21-carat gold at Tk 250,193, 18-carat at Tk 214,443, and traditional gold at Tk 175,485 per bhori.

Silver prices remained unchanged, with 22-carat silver at Tk 6,357 per bhori.

BAJUS cited rising international gold prices as the reason for the local hike. On the global market, gold surged to $4,966 per ounce on Saturday, up from $4,850 the previous day, according to goldprice.org.

Earlier this year, international gold prices reached a record $5,550 per ounce on January 29, prompting BAJUS to announce a historic Tk 16,213 per bhori increase in local prices, taking 22-carat gold to Tk 2,86,000 per bhori—the highest in Bangladesh’s history.
