Gono Odhikar Parishad has called for nationwide protest marches today (August 30) in protest against the attack on its president, Nurul Haque Nur, in capital's Kakrail. A central rally is also set to take place in the capital.

The party’s General Secretary, Rashed Khan, announced the details of the programme outside Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday night. He said, “Protest marches will be held simultaneously across all 64 districts at 12 noon on Saturday. The central rally will take place in front of the party’s Dhaka office at 3.00pm.”

Nurul Haque Nur suffered serious injuries on Friday evening during a clash with police in front of the Jatiya Party’s central office in Kakrail. Fellow activists quickly rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Videos circulating on social media show Nur’s face and chest covered in blood, with severe bleeding from his nose. Party members were later seen carrying him to the hospital on a stretcher.
