Salahuddin Ahmed, member of BNP’s Standing Committee, has said that to prevent the resurgence of authoritarian rule, good political practice and politics based on proper ideals must be nurtured. He stated that through cultivating a democratic culture, it will be possible to reach a stage where fascism or autocracy can never rise in Bangladesh again.

He made the remarks on Saturday (6 September) as the chief guest at a football competition organised by Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP at Dhanmondi Club Ground on the occasion of BNP’s 47th founding anniversary.

Salahuddin Ahmed said, “Leaders and activists should maintain cordial relationships and no one should obstruct others during democratic programmes—this practice is part of democratic culture. Avoiding coercive attitudes in political activities is also essential.”

He further added, “The public should feel changes even through cultural practices. To bring qualitative change in politics, good ideals and culture must be established. Through this, past fascist practices will be eradicated, and all undemocratic political traditions will fade into history.”

Leaders from various levels of Dhaka Metropolitan North and South BNP were present at the event.
