Google’s digital payment service, Google Wallet—commonly known as Google Pay—has officially launched in Bangladesh. Citi Bank PLC has introduced this service in partnership with Google, Mastercard, and Visa. Now, Citi Bank customers can link their Mastercard or Visa cards to the Google Wallet app for quick, secure, and contactless transactions.

The launch event was held on Tuesday morning (June 24) at the Westin Hotel in Dhaka. The chief guest was Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur, Governor of Bangladesh Bank. Special guests included Tracy N. Jacobson, Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, and Hosain Khaled, Vice Chairman of Citi Bank.

Also present were Masrur Arefin, Managing Director and CEO of Citi Bank; Shammi Kuddus, Group Product Manager of Google Payments; Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager of Mastercard Bangladesh; and Sabbir Ahmed, Country Manager of Visa Bangladesh.

Citi Bank customers can now make payments by simply tapping their Android phones on any NFC-enabled POS terminal, both locally and internationally. Google Pay employs advanced encryption technology to ensure customer data security, eliminating the need to carry physical cards turning smartphones into digital wallets.

This service will support a wide range of transactions, including air travel bookings, shopping, movie tickets, and other everyday needs.

Masrur Arefin commented, “This partnership reflects our commitment to building a forward-looking digital payment ecosystem in Bangladesh. We are proud to bring this innovative service to our customers.”
