Govenment to launch special drive to recover laundered money: Finance Minister

The finance minister has announced a strong and coordinated initiative to recover money laundered abroad. He outlined the government's tough stance on this issue during his budget speech for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury presented the budget in the National Parliament on Thursday, June 11.

In the budget, he said special operations would be conducted to bring back laundered money, and international cooperation would be further strengthened.

According to the government's objectives, preventing money laundering and recovering illegal assets held abroad will be prioritised. He mentioned that plans are in place to work in coordination with various international organisations and countries to achieve this goal.

According to the budget, the total size for the 2026-27 fiscal year is Tk 9,38,000 crore. The revenue collection target is Tk 6,95,000 crore, resulting in a deficit of Tk 2,43,000 crore, which will be financed through domestic and foreign loans.

The finance minister said the government is giving top priority to restoring economic discipline, curbing corruption and preventing money laundering.
