The government has taken a policy decision to establish four police stations, six investigation centres and two police lines in the Purbachal New Town Project as part of efforts to strengthen law enforcement in the rapidly expanding township, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir said.

The announcement came after the inauguration of the Borkau Police Camp in the Purbachal New Town Project area on Wednesday (July 1).

The IGP said the proposed policing infrastructure under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police will also include three deputy commissioner (DC) offices and 41 police boxes to enhance security and public services.

According to him, the government has allocated 29.21 acres of land for the police facilities, of which 18.63 acres have already been officially registered in favour of the force.

Fakir also outlined a broader plan to bring the entire Purbachal township under the jurisdiction of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The proposal includes creating a separate DMP division headed by an Additional Police Commissioner, supported by approximately 6,524 personnel.

The move is aimed at ensuring effective policing in one of the country's largest planned urban developments as residential and commercial activities continue to expand.

Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, and other senior police officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
