The government has cancelled the certificates of 71 individuals falsely claiming to be freedom fighters, according to a gazette published on December 24.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs had earlier issued a notification regarding the decision.

The cancellation was made under the authority of Section 6(g) of the National Freedom Fighters Council Act, 2022, and Schedule-1 of the Rules of Business, 1996, based on the 101st meeting of the National Freedom Fighters Council (NFFC).

The revoked certificates include names listed under civilian, Indian list, LalMuktiBarta, Ansar forces, the army, and the martyred police.

NFFC sources confirmed that verification revealed these individuals had obtained certificates without actually participating in the liberation war. The ongoing verification process for other freedom fighters continues.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs emphasised that the initiative aims to preserve the honour and dignity of genuine freedom fighters. It also warned that anyone attempting to claim recognition as a freedom fighter fraudulently in the future will face legal action.
