Government cancels Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Peace Award
The government has decided to cancel the "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Peace Award".
The decision was made during a meeting of the advisory council with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus in the chair.
On May 20 last year, the Awami League government approved the policy for awarding the "Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Peace Award" in recognition of contributions to international peace and various other fields.
Although the policy for the award was finalised, no one had yet been conferred with it.
According to the policy, the award was planned to be presented to an individual or organisation every two years. The recipient was to receive $100,000, a 50-gram 18-carat gold medal, and a certificate.
The award was also planned to be nominated to individuals or organisations contributing to global peace, the eradication of hunger and poverty, and the cessation of wars and conflicts.
