Government does not have Aladdin’s lamp in hand, time will be needed to solve problems: DSCC administrator

Md Abdus Salam, administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), has commented that the government does not have ‘Aladdin’s lamp’ in hand in the current situation of the country. He has said it is not possible to solve the big problems facing the country all at once. Cooperation will also have to be given along with giving time to the government to overcome these crises.

He said these words as the chief guest at the inauguration and oath-taking ceremony of BD Commercial at the National Press Club on Saturday afternoon.

The DSCC administrator said the government found a chaotic situation in almost all sectors of the country at the time of taking responsibility. If the condition of the economy is not good it is difficult to bring back normal situation in other sectors as well. Because almost every sector of the country is connected with the economy in some way or other.

He said the government is working to take the country forward by overcoming the economic crisis. Amid this the price of fuel oil has increased in the international market due to the unrest in the Middle East, the impact of which has fallen on various countries including Bangladesh. At the same time there are various crises in the gas and electricity sectors as well.

Regarding gas Abdus Salam said in the previous time sufficient importance was not given to gas extraction in the country and more emphasis was given on import dependence. He claimed this created the opportunity for commission trade. Alongside it is difficult to quickly make up for the damage that has been done to the economy due to looting of bank money and various irregularities. However he also informed that the government is working to confront these crises.

The DSCC administrator claimed that although it is not possible to fully eliminate the electricity and gas crises the situation is improving. He also informed that efforts are on to create an environment like restarting the closed industrial factories. Mentioning that some time is needed to further improve the situation of the country he called for cooperation and patience to the government.

At that time Abdus Salam also spoke about dengue. He said dengue cannot be controlled only by killing mosquitoes; the breeding places of mosquitoes must be destroyed. He called on everyone to be responsible for quickly removing water if it accumulates in houses, surrounding drains and roofs. He gave importance on destroying the birth places of mosquitoes so that no person dies of dengue.

Newly elected president of BD Commercial Md Abdur Rahim Jinnah presided over the programme. General secretary Md Kafi Khan conducted the programme. Director of BKMEA Md Belayet Hossain Ripon was present as the special guest in it.
