Government does not interfere with press freedom: Information Adviser
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam said that currently the interim government does not interfere with in the country's media.
He said this while holding a meeting with Unesco Bangladesh Representative Susan Vize at the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 23), said a press release of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Adviser Mahfuj Alam said in the meeting that preparations are underway to formulate an ordinance to protect the rights of journalists in light of the recommendations of the Media Reform Commission.
He also said that the government will provide all kinds of support so that the media can work independently in the next national elections.
The adviser said at the time that currently there is no government interference in the media. The government expects a neutral and responsible role from the media.
The meeting also discussed various issues including the activities of the Bangladesh Press Council, journalist training, and strategies to prevent rumors and propaganda. Kizi Tahnin, head of Unesco Bangladesh's Culture Branch, was also present at the meeting.
