Government forms special cell to ensure accountability in MPs’ promises, development commitments
The government has formed a seven-member special cell under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to monitor and ensure accountability in the implementation of promises and development commitments made by Members of Parliament (MPs).
The development was announced through an official gazette notification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday (May 7).
According to the notification, the cell has been established to accelerate the implementation of MPs’ pledged programmes, strengthen inter-ministerial coordination, and ensure greater transparency and accountability in execution processes.
The newly formed body will collect, compile, and preserve information related to commitments and expected development programmes proposed by lawmakers. It will also conduct preliminary evaluations, set priorities based on public interest and feasibility, and forward recommendations to the relevant ministries and departments for implementation.
The notification further stated that representatives or additional personnel from concerned ministries, divisions, or offices may be attached to the cell whenever necessary to support its activities.
The Adviser on Finance and Planning Affairs to the Prime Minister will serve as the chairman of the cell, while the Prime Minister’s Protocol Officer-1 has been assigned as member secretary.
Other members include the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Private Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister, directors from relevant ministries or departments, the Prime Minister’s Assignment Officer-1, and the Prime Minister’s Research Officer.
The cell will also oversee the progress of approved projects in coordination with relevant ministries and agencies, provide necessary directives, and monitor field-level implementation activities to ensure timely execution of development commitments.
