Government frees five convicted prisoners ahead of Eid
The government has granted conditional remission to five prisoners, allowing them to be released ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
The decision was announced on Sunday (March 15) by the Department of Prisons.
According to a press release, under Article 49 of the Constitution, the President approved remission of the remaining sentences for five convicts serving more than half of their prison terms.
The prisoners granted remission include Akash Giri Prakash Akash Das, 22, of Chandpur District Jail, Robiul Hossain, 25, of Lakshmipur District Jail, Md. Zikrul Haque alias Ziku, 43, and Md. Nuruzzaman, 29, of Rangpur Central Jail, and Md. Abdul Karim, 56, of Comilla Central Jail.
The notice also instructed the relevant authorities to release them immediately, provided there is no other reason to retain them, and all applicable conditions, including fines, are met.
