Government initiates international exhibition to boost jute and jute product exports

The government has taken steps to organize an international exhibition to expand the export of jute and jute products. To this end, a coordination meeting titled "Strategic Economic Diplomacy and Export Expansion of Bangladesh's Jute Sector" was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

During the meeting held in Dhaka, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam announced the formation of a joint executive group between the two ministries and plans to host an international jute expo in the near future on Tuesday (July 21).

Secretaries and senior officials from both ministries, along with representatives from the Department of Jute, jute industry-related organizations, research institutions, and development partners, attended the meeting.

Emphasizing the revitalization of the jute industry, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam stated that an international exhibition of jute and jute products could play a crucial role in restoring the lost glory of the golden fiber. She stressed the importance of utilizing economic diplomacy through Bangladeshi missions abroad to create new markets for jute.

State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md. Shariful Alam expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for this initiative. He highlighted the necessity of coordinated efforts between the public and private sectors in jute production, processing, new market expansion, and industrial modernization.

It was decided at the meeting that the joint executive group formed by the two ministries will plan the national-level jute exhibition. Additionally, the group will monitor progress regarding the removal of trade barriers in the jute industry, establishment of research centers, adoption of modern technology, and modernization of jute mills.

A decision was also made to invite local and foreign buyers, researchers, and investors to the proposed international jute expo. Furthermore, discussions were held regarding setting up mandatory jute display centers and gift shops at the country's international airports, implementing a project for jute school bags for primary school students, and achieving self-sufficiency in jute seed production within the next three years.

Both ministries stated that their primary goals are transforming jute into a modern industry, ensuring fair prices for farmers, and establishing Bangladesh as a global source for eco-friendly jute products.
