Government issues ordinance repealing Cyber Security Act 2023

The interim government has issued an ordinance repealing the Cyber Security Act 2023. The ordinance aims to ensure cyber security, identify cybercrimes, address criminal activities in cyberspace, and establish provisions for their prosecution and related matters.

On Wednesday, under the directive of the President, Dr. Hafiz Ahmed Chowdhury, the Secretary of the Legislative Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, signed the ordinance.

The ordinance, numbered 25 of 2025, was promulgated by the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on May 21, 2025. It has been published for public knowledge and reference.

The ordinance confirms the repeal of the Cyber Security Act 2023. However, specific sections—17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 30, 32, and 35—of the repealed law will remain in force.
