Government must take responsibility for attack on Nur, says Adviser Asif Mahmud
The interim government must take responsibility for the attack on Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, said Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan. He made the remarks on Sunday (August 31) afternoon while visiting Nur at the hospital.
Asif Mahmud said that efforts are being made to bring back the Awami League through the Jatiya Party. Fascist forces are now flexing their strength in various forms, and those who led the July mass uprising from the front lines are being targeted as part of a vengeful reaction to their defeat.
Referring to the formation of a strong investigation committee to bring those involved to justice, he said, "We have learned that Gono Odhikar Parishad and Nurul Haque Nur received threats even before organizing this programme. The government will investigate these matters thoroughly."
In response to a question, Adviser Asif said, "One must understand the difference between a mob and a political programme. How can a political party carry out a mob attack? How can you call the programme of a registered political party a 'mob'?" He said, "The initial attack came from the Jatiya Party. We have seen before that such heated situations can arise between political parties. But to label it as a mob attack in order to neutralize one side and facilitate the other is not acceptable. The Jatiya Party is a well-defined and identified fascist entity."
He further said, "We have seen in the past how the Jatiya Party repeatedly legitimized the fascist parliament of the Awami League, how it brought prescriptions from India to create an artificial parliament in Bangladesh, to stage a fake democracy. If anyone now tries to support these identified fascist elements in any way, we must all come together to resist it."
