Government to act against fraudsters in overseas recruitment: Minister

The government is taking immediate action against fraudsters in the name of sending people abroad, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said.

He said this while talking to reporters after a check distribution ceremony for financial assistance to the families of workers injured and killed in various accidents at the Sylhet District Council auditorium on Monday (May 25).

The Expatriates' Welfare Minister said that the government has taken steps to amend the labor law as soon as possible to provide maximum support to workers.

At this time, he also announced the government's plan to provide overall support to the families of workers injured and killed in various accidents while going to work, including road accidents, as well as to provide assistance to the families of workers killed in lightning strikes in the haor region.

Earlier, at a check distribution ceremony under the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment handed over checks worth Tk 63.5 million to the families of 201 injured and deceased workers in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts. The minimum amount of Tk 10,000 to Tk 200,000 was distributed to the families of the workers.

The ceremony was chaired by Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam and was attended by special guests including Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment Md. Abdur Rahman Tarafdar, Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Mashiur Rahman, DIG of Sylhet Range of Police Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of Sylhet Zilla Parishad Sandeep Kumar Singha, among others.
