Govt approves import of 50,000 tonnes of octane at Tk 4,130 crore
The decision was made at a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Committee held on Tuesday at the Cabinet Division, chaired by Financial Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to sources, the approval follows a proposal from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to import the octane during July-December 2025 based on premium and reference prices.
The total emergency demand for Gasoline 95 Unleaded in 2025 is estimated at 650,000 tonnes. Of this, 125,000 tonnes will be procured through government-to-government deals, another 125,000 tonnes through international quotations, and the remaining 400,000 tonnes locally.
The 50,000 tons approved for import will be sourced from Indonesian company PT Bumi Siak Pusako Zapin. Funding for the import will come from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation’s budget, fuel sales revenue, and external loans.
