Govt approves purchase of passport booklets and lamination foils from England

The interim government has approved the purchase of 1.5 million passport booklets and 1.5 million lamination foils from England at a cost of 61 crore 20 lakh Taka for the current 2024-25 fiscal year.

This approval was granted after a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Government Procurement, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, in the Cabinet Division conference room at the Secretariat on Wednesday (November 27).

According to meeting sources, a proposal was submitted by the Ministry of Security Services to purchase 1.5 million passport booklets and 1.5 million lamination foils, which was not included in the original agenda. After discussing the proposal, the Advisory Committee approved it. As a result, 1.5 million passport booklets and 1.5 million lamination foils will be purchased from HID CID Limited in England for a total cost of 61 crore 20 lakh Taka.

In addition, the Advisory Committee approved a procurement proposal for printing, binding, and supplying free textbooks for the 2025 academic year. The textbooks are for the 8th grade in both Bengali and English versions, the Dakhil 8th grade, and the Technical 8th grade. Based on a proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the purchase will involve 102 lots from 76 institutions, printing 5 crore 20 lakh 54 thousand 276 copies of the textbooks at a total cost of 269 crore 69 lakh 19 thousand 567 Taka.
