Govt condemns attack on Nur, vows impartial probe, speedy justice
The interim government has strongly condemned the brutal attack on Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and a key leader of the July Mass Uprising, vowing full accountability for those responsible.
In a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s press wing on Saturday (August 30), the government said the assault on Nur and his party members was not merely an attack on a political figure but a blow to the democratic movement and the struggle for justice.
The statement emphasized that a full and impartial investigation will be conducted, ensuring that no one—regardless of rank or influence—escapes accountability. It further assured that speedy justice will be delivered.
To oversee Nur’s treatment, a special medical board has been formed, and the government pledged to send him and his injured colleagues abroad for advanced treatment at state expense if necessary.
Acknowledging Nur’s role in mobilising youth, the statement noted, “From the 2018 quota reform movement to the July uprising, he organized the youth and stood fearlessly against injustice—his role remains a symbol of Bangladesh’s democratic journey.”
Calling for unity, the interim government urged all political and social forces involved in the July uprising to remain united against anti-people conspiracies and to ensure a democratic transition.
The government reaffirmed that the next national election will be held on schedule in the first half of February 2026, stressing that no conspiracy or obstruction can derail the people’s mandate.
