The government has strongly condemned the attempted attack on Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam in London on September 12.

As Mahfuz Alam was leaving a SOAS-University of London event marking the first anniversary of Bangladesh’s July uprising, a group of protesters threw eggs at vehicles belonging to the Bangladesh High Commission and briefly tried to block their path.

London’s Metropolitan Police intervened promptly. Reports confirmed that Alam was not in the vehicles targeted.

In an official statement, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing described the act as “reckless” and “unacceptable,” calling on authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The statement also referenced a previous incident in New York, where similar attacks occurred during Mahfuz Alam’s official visit.

The government urged political and community leaders in the diaspora to reject violence and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding peaceful protest and civil discourse.

The Bangladesh High Commission in London confirmed ongoing coordination with police to ensure security during the Adviser’s engagements.
