Govt employees protest at Secretariat, demand removal of Finance Secretary
A section of government employees staged a protest at the Secretariat on Sunday, demanding the removal of Finance Secretary Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder and the fulfillment of several other demands.
Around 11:30am, employees began a march that ended at the new building of the Ministry of Public Administration, where they held a sit-in and raised slogans.
The key demands include:
Removal of the Finance Secretary and certain officials for allegedly obstructing reasonable requests.
Implementation of the new Pay Commission by November.
Renaming of posts for employees in grades 10 to 20.
Md. Badiul Kabir, president of the Bangladesh Secretariat Officers-Employees Joint Council, said, “We urge the government to accept our legitimate demands. Employees are carrying out this sit-in peacefully to press for their rights.”
Earlier in June, Secretariat employees from various ministries and departments held several days of protests demanding the repeal of the Government Job Amendment Ordinance, 2025. The government later amended the ordinance.
