The government has been able to ensure fuel supply until next April, said Anindya Islam Amit, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

He made the remarks while attending an event in Jashore on Friday afternoon.

The state minister said the government has no plans to increase fuel oil prices at this time. "We have been able to ensure the country's fuel demand until April," he said.

Noting that 80 countries around the world have raised fuel prices, the state minister said, "We have kept the supply system normal. However, our demand has increased abnormally. In March 2025, diesel demand was around 12,000 tonnes, while petrol-octane demand was 12,000-24,000 tonnes."

He added, "You will be surprised to know that we supplied an average of 24,000-25,000 metric tonnes of diesel per day before this Eid. That means demand has doubled compared to March last year."

"A petrol pump in Dhaka that sold an average of 5,000 litres of octane per day in March last year is now selling an average of 10,000 litres of petrol-octane, and that octane is being exhausted within 2-3 hours," he said.

"If we buy more than we need, someone else will be deprived of fuel. I assure you that the current government has been able to secure fuel demand until April," Anindya Islam said.

The state minister said work has begun to ensure that the government can secure 90 days of fuel reserves for the coming days, as the world is likely to continue facing crises.

He added, "If fuel oil prices increase, electricity prices will rise, public transport costs will go up, and food prices will increase. In short, life will become more difficult. Therefore, despite pressure from all sides, the government currently has no plan to increase fuel prices."

The state minister also said the government is providing a daily subsidy of approximately Tk 167 crore for fuel.

"Yesterday, Iran gave permission for ships from five countries to navigate through the Strait of Hormuz, and Bangladesh is among them. This was not achieved by chance; it is a diplomatic success of the current government," he said.
