Govt forms 37-member National Committee to organise Mass Uprising Day

The interim government has announced the formation of a 37-member National Committee to oversee and coordinate the nationwide observance of the July–August Mass Uprising Day, a period marked to commemorate the people's movement that led to the recent political transition.


The announcement came through an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division, signed by Additional Secretary Md Humayun Kabir, on Thursday (June 26).


The committee will be chaired by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, while the Adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has been appointed as Vice-Chairman. The Adviser to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will act as the Programme Coordinator.


Advisers from other ministries, members and vice-chairman of the National Consensus Commission, the Cabinet Secretary, chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and senior officials including the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and Secretaries of the Ministries of Finance, Cultural Affairs, and Foreign Affairs have also been included as members of the committee.


According to the notification, the committee is responsible for providing strategic direction, planning, and supervising events and programmes marking the Mass Uprising Day, observed from July 1 to August 5 across the country. The committee will also monitor and review the implementation of decisions taken by the respective executive bodies.


The Cabinet Division will provide secretarial support, and the committee has been empowered to include additional members as needed to ensure effective coordination and execution of the commemorative programmes.
