Govt forms 8-member committee for primary school teacher recruitment
The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has formed an eight-member committee to oversee the recruitment of assistant teachers for government primary schools. The recruitment notification is expected to be published soon.
The committee formation was announced on Sunday (August 31) through an official notification signed by Rebekah Sultana, Joint Secretary of the ministry. The committee was established under the Government Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules, 2025.
The Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education will chair the committee, while the Director (Policy and Operations) of the same directorate will serve as member-secretary. Other members include senior officials from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Directorate of Primary Education, Bureau of Non-Formal Education, Ministry of Public Administration, and the Public Service Commission.
Earlier, on August 28, the ministry issued the official gazette for the recruitment rules.
According to the new rules, 93% of assistant teacher positions will be filled on merit. Of these, 20% of posts will be reserved for science graduates and 80% for graduates in other subjects.
A 7% quota has been set aside for specific groups: 5% for children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters, and war heroines; 1% for ethnic minorities; and 1% for physically challenged and third-gender candidates. If eligible candidates are not found within the quota, these positions will be filled based on merit.
Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree and must not have received a third division/class in any academic examination.
