The government has formed a high-level inquiry commission, led by Justice Md Ali Reza of the High Court Division, to investigate the recent attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President and former DUCSU Vice President Nurul Haque Nur.

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday night (September 4) confirmed the formation of the three-member commission under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1956.

The other two members of the commission are the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division.

The commission has been given 30 working days from the date of the notification to submit its findings and recommendations to the government.

Nur was critically injured in an attack on August 29 and is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The Chief Adviser has instructed that he be sent abroad for advanced medical care.

The commission’s mandate includes identifying those responsible for the attack and recommending legal action against them. It has also been tasked with suggesting preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
