BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and an independent candidate for Dhaka-8. He also wished Hadi a quick recovery, calling for decisive action from the government.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday (December 12), Mirza Fakhrul wrote, “There is no place for political violence in a democracy — never. Regardless of our ideology, anyone who resorts to intimidation or force must be rejected collectively.”

Referring to initial reports, he added, “It is being said that independent candidate Osman Hadi has been shot and taken to the hospital. I wish him a speedy recovery. I hope the interim government and relevant authorities will take firm and immediate action.”

Earlier in the day, July Oikyo organiser Israfil Forayezi said Hadi was shot by two armed assailants on a motorcycle during election campaigning in the capital’s Bijoynagar area. He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

DMCH Emergency Department Resident Surgeon Dr Moshkat Ahmed confirmed that Hadi sustained a bullet wound to the head and described his condition as “extremely critical.” “He is now in coma,” he added.
