Govt issues 2026 public holiday notification

The Ministry of Public Administration has issued the list of public holidays for 2026.

The circular, published on Sunday (November 9), includes 14 general holidays and 14 by executive order, totaling 28 days, of which 9 fall on weekends.

Optional leave days have also been fixed — 5 for Muslims, 9 for Hindus, 8 for Christians, 7 for Buddhists, and 2 for ethnic minority employees.

The notification states that employees can take a maximum of three optional holidays per year with prior approval.

The decision was approved earlier at an interim government advisory council meeting on November 6.
