Govt issues directive over incitement around Chandranath Hill shrine
Three advisers of the interim government held a crucial meeting with leaders of the Sanatan Dharma Chandranath Dham Shrine Committee to address rising concerns about inciting activities around the revered Chandranath Hill temple.
According to the shrine committee leaders, the temple has witnessed various provocative actions over the past five years aimed at disrupting communal harmony. The meeting, held Wednesday morning at Railway Bhavan, focused on measures to curb such incidents and ensure peace in the region.
Present at the meeting were Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources; Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, Adviser to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education; and Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, Religious Adviser.
Following the discussions, the advisors instructed field administration, law enforcement agencies, and intelligence services to remain vigilant and take swift action against any provocative activities near the shrine. Additionally, committee members highlighted the urgent need to repair the temple stairs, which are currently in poor condition and pose safety risks to visitors.
Responding to this, Adviser Fauzul Kabir Khan immediately contacted Rezaul Maksud Zahedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives in Chattogram, to expedite the renovation work.
Adviser Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar emphasized the interim government’s commitment to building a society free of discrimination based on religion, caste, or class.
Religious Advisor Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain condemned attacks on religious establishments, calling such acts criminal and contrary to religious principles. He urged the Sanatan Dharma community to submit their legitimate demands to the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, assuring that appropriate measures will be taken.
Adviser Fauzul Kabir Khan reiterated the temple’s deep historical and cultural significance and warned that no acts undermining communal harmony would be tolerated. Strict actions will be enforced immediately upon detecting any signs of incitement.
