Govt likely to hold election in February: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed optimism that the interim government will organize the next national elections in February.
Speaking to reporters after paying respects at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) on Monday morning, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We expect the interim government to arrange national elections by February.”
He arrived in Sylhet at 9:00 AM to attend a prayer session and discussion meeting organized by the Sylhet District and Metropolitan BNP, seeking the recovery of party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Addressing the media, Fakhrul emphasized that democracy can only be restored through fair elections, which are essential for steering the country in the right direction.
He also highlighted the significance of mass movements, stating, “The student-led uprising in July, marked by bloodshed and sacrifice, has shown the nation a new path. It is now our responsibility to realize that vision.”
Fakhrul further claimed that more than six million BNP leaders and activists are currently facing false legal cases, and alleged that thousands have lost their lives as a result of ongoing political repression.
