Govt opens control room to assess earthquake damage

The government has opened an emergency control room to quickly identify and coordinate potential damage after the severe earthquake across the country including Dhaka. The Disaster Management and Relief Ministry’s public relations wing released the information in a notice on Friday November 21.

The notice said that six deaths have so far been reported in Dhaka and several districts in the earthquake that struck in the morning, and many people have been injured.

The Disaster Management and Relief Ministry said the situation is being closely monitored after the strong tremor was felt nationwide. The ministry’s adviser has instructed all relevant offices to immediately move to the field level and collect data on possible damage. Detailed information will be released after rapid assessment, and necessary measures will be taken.

In addition, an emergency control room has been opened at the Department of Disaster Management. Citizens have been asked to contact 0258811651 to report information related to damage or assistance.

The notice further stated that people have been urged not to pay attention to rumours or misleading information associated with the earthquake. The government is working in every possible way to ensure public safety.
