The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has issued a stern directive to employees of the Palli Bidyut Samiti (PBS) who have been absent from work under the guise of "mass leave," instructing them to return to their respective workplaces within 24 hours.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the ministry emphasized that uninterrupted electricity supply is categorized as an essential service. Any obstruction or disruption in this service is a punishable offense under the Essential Services Act.

“The government remains sensitive to the demands raised by the officers and employees of the Palli Bidyut Samiti, and efforts are underway to address their concerns,” the statement read. “However, those engaged in the supply of electricity to rural areas must resume their duties without delay.”

The ministry further warned that failure to comply with the directive would result in legal action against the absentees.

This announcement comes amid growing concerns over power supply disruptions in rural regions due to the unauthorized absence of Palli Bidyut employees.
