Public transport, private cars, and rickshaws will be plying on the polling day on January 7 to guarantee voter turnout, said Mustafizur Rahman, senior secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He revealed this information at a training program for executive magistrates at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Tuesday (January 2).

He said, "Public transport, private cars, CNG and auto-rickshaws will be allowed to ply on the election day for the convenience of voters. However, as before, the movement of motorcycles and long-distance buses will be prohibited. The relevant ministry will issue instructions in this regard soon."

Earlier on December 31, the Road Transport and Highways Department issued a notification regarding the transport movement ahead of the elections. According to the notification, from 12 noon on January 6 to midnight on January 7, taxis, pickups, microbuses and trucks will be banned.
