Govt plans to reopen closed factories with Chinese assistance: Industry Minister
The government has expressed its intention to reopen closed industrial units in Bangladesh with support from China, according to Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir.
He made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of the Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka on Thursday (May 14).
The minister said Bangladesh is seeking increased Chinese investment and technical assistance, particularly to revive inactive factories and modernize the country’s jute industry.
He emphasized that cooperation with China could play a key role in restoring production in shut-down industrial units and strengthening Bangladesh’s textile and manufacturing sectors.
During the event, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said China is working to expand bilateral trade and investment relations with Bangladesh under the new government.
He added that China is ready to provide full technical support in the green textile sector, including environmentally friendly and recyclable textile technologies.
The Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo features participation from leading textile and garment companies, investors, and technology experts from both countries. The three-day exhibition showcases sustainable textile innovations and hosts seminars and panel discussions focusing on green industrial development.
The expo will remain open to the public daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm and will conclude on May 16.
