Govt proposes withdrawal of 6,202 political cases

The central committee, formed by the Home Ministry to recommend the withdrawal of politically motivated and harassing cases, has recommended the dismissal of 6,202 cases so far.

Headed by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul, the committee has held eight meetings to assess the cases and determine their merit for withdrawal, said a media release of the ministry issued on Sunday.

In the course of eight meetings, proposals were submitted to the central committee for the withdrawal of 6,295 cases.

It also highlighted that during the 16-year tenure of the ousted government, a number of cases were filed against people, which were deemed politically motivated or meant to harass opponents.

The interim government formed two committees, headed by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul.
